Gentle From The Primitive: A Retro-Style Residential Interior Design

A Rustic Retreat with a Modern Twist

Gentle From The Primitive is a unique residential interior design project by Chun Hsiang Yang that combines rustic elements with modern aesthetics. This mezzanine layout covers the 10th and 11th floors of a residential building in Taoyuan, Taiwan, and offers a spacious and inviting living environment.

The homeowner, who is engaged in the green material industry, has placed great emphasis on selecting high-quality, eco-friendly materials for this living space. The design features a generous use of wood, paired with stone materials, to create a retro-style atmosphere. The open-plan layout enhances the sense of space, making the area appear larger and more inviting.

Ample natural light floods the living room through large French windows, creating a bright and airy ambiance. The unadorned ceiling, together with track lights, adds to the originality of the space. The wood texture of the walls, beam, and cabinetry harmonizes perfectly with the brown-vein leather sofa, luggage-shaped table, hardwood long table, and classical chandelier.

This residential interior design stands out for its commitment to creating a healthy and eco-friendly living environment. It is constructed with zero-Formaldehyde green materials and adhesives, ensuring a safe and poison-free space. The design aims to provide a physically and mentally liberating experience, immersing its users in a peaceful and exotic milieu.

The design also incorporates clever storage solutions, with large storage and shoe cabinets extending beyond the entrance to the living room. Hollowed-out display cabinets offer a unique visual display, while reserved space below the cabinetry accommodates suspended plugs and storage for cleaning robots. Through thoughtful lighting design, the hefty wooden cabinetry appears lighter, creating a visual harmony with the wood vein on the walls and the décor covering the beam and the long couch by the window.

One of the standout features of this design is the outdoor balcony on the upper level of the mezzanine. It serves as a striking focal point when sitting in the dining area downstairs. A large sheet of glass and a convertible skylight create a dome of nature for the dining area, allowing natural light to flood in. The thick pillar in the corner of the dining room is paved with driveway bricks, adding a touch of business-like elegance to the rustic atmosphere.

Gentle From The Primitive is a testament to the designer's ingenuity and attention to detail. It has received recognition for its outstanding design, winning the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2021. This award recognizes designs that exhibit strong technical and creative skills, contributing to quality of life improvements and making the world a better place.

With its unique blend of rustic charm and modern sophistication, Gentle From The Primitive offers a retreat-like living space that is both inviting and inspiring. It showcases the power of design to create a harmonious and aesthetically pleasing environment, while also prioritizing sustainability and well-being.
