Cubiq House 12: A Nature-Inspired Residential Design by Ken Thong

A Rustic and Comfortable Home Surrounded by Natural Beauty

As this home is located in an award-winning integrated township designed to enliven the resident lifestyle with a sustainable environment, Ken Thong, the designer, has created Cubiq House 12 to capture the essence of a nature-inspired lifestyle. With contemporary design features and a focus on comfort, this residential building offers a unique and rejuvenating living experience.

Surrounded by natural parks and landscapes, Cubiq House 12 stands out with its comfortable urban hues and warm wood textures. The design aims to bring the rejuvenating vibe of the surroundings into the interior spaces. One of the standout features is the majestic wooden ceiling, which serves as an eye-catcher in the common area and maintains visual connectivity throughout the space. The grand double-volume ceiling ensures that every corner of the house is illuminated with a healthy amount of natural light, creating a welcoming and vibrant atmosphere.

Ken Thong and his team have carefully chosen natural building materials to complement the nature-inspired concept of the design. The entrance hallway features a main ceiling feature adorned with slim timber planks, creating a visually stunning effect. Full-height glass windows equipped with roller blinds enhance daylight and privacy while blurring the lines between the interior and exterior. Authentic wooden finishes, quartz stone, metal, and cement-like elements add character and contrast to the neutral color scheme, resulting in a harmonious and visually appealing aesthetic.

Cubiq House 12 is a 2,788 square feet, three-story superlink home with 5+1 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. The design emphasizes functionality and practicality while maintaining a minimalist and modern style. The open layout of the interior spaces promotes freedom of movement and enhances interaction and communication among family members. The absence of clutter further enhances the spaciousness of the open space layout and allows natural lighting to illuminate the interior.

The design process for Cubiq House 12 was not without its challenges. Ken Thong and his team had to strike a balance between practicality and aesthetics, especially in the open-layout concept of the interior spaces. Ensuring that each space is well-lit with natural light to reduce energy consumption was a priority. Durable materials such as timber wood, anti-crack textured wall paint, quartz stone, and stainless steel were incorporated into the design to provide a hassle-free option for the inhabitants, ensuring longevity and easy maintenance.

Cubiq House 12 was completed in May 2021 in Kota Kemuning, Shah Alam, Selangor, Malaysia. The project took place from January 2021 and was a collaboration between Ken Thong, Emma Yap, and Lik Keong. The design was inspired by extensive research on natural materials, functional spaces, and style and character. The result is a home that reflects the homeowner's personality and modern lifestyle needs while providing a serene and comfortable living environment.
