Dream Home: Affordable Luxury in Dark Tones

Affordable luxury and dark tones come together in this stunning residential design by Hsiao Chi Chiang

After eight years, a family of four sought to create their dream home. Hsiao Chi Chiang, the renowned designer they had previously worked with, was invited to bring their vision to life. The result is a space that symbolizes the next phase of their lives, combining affordability, luxury, and dark tones.

The design team took advantage of the high floor with good lighting and depth of field to create a space that exudes affordable luxury. Dark colors, curved elements, and a variety of materials were used to achieve a unique and sophisticated atmosphere. The team also prioritized the use of environmentally friendly materials to ensure the health and well-being of the family, including their children and pets.

One of the standout features of this design is the use of various materials, each with its own style and characteristics. Bright mirrors, grey glass, matte Valchromat, and rustic linen come together to create a layered and visually captivating space. The combination of these materials adds depth and richness to the overall design.

To create a warm and inviting atmosphere, curved elements are incorporated throughout the space. The ceiling features curved lines that extend from the foyer to the living room, creating a sense of continuity and flow. The living room window frames also have a circular platform that echoes the ceiling, further enhancing the cozy atmosphere.

The choice of building materials was carefully considered, with a focus on being environmentally friendly, durable, and easy to maintain. Engineered hardwood flooring, white marble, Roma stone, grey glass, Valchromat, clay plate, linen, and imported FENIX were used to create a space that is both visually stunning and practical.

The layout of the home includes an open kitchen, a living room, a recreation room with a piano, a master bedroom, a grandparents' room, and two children's rooms. The design team made strategic changes to the original layout to optimize the view and improve the flow of the space. By removing a facade between the living room and kitchen, the team was able to integrate the TV wall with the view outside the window, creating a more intuitive and visually connected space.

Throughout the design, the bar stands out as a diverse and visually striking element. The combination of clay plate, titanium plate, Valchromat, and mirror creates a luxurious space that seamlessly blends dark tones with functionality. Natural light from the outdoors illuminates the rounded lines of the bar, inviting the client and their family to enjoy the scenery while relaxing in this stylish space.

This project was completed in March 2022 in Taiwan, and it showcases the meticulous research and attention to detail that went into every aspect of the design. From the layout to the materials, every decision was made with the goal of creating a unique and inviting home for the family.

The design team faced challenges along the way, particularly with the large columns in the living room. However, they successfully transformed these structural elements into stylish design features. By wrapping the columns in dark Valchromat, using mirrors to minimize their volume, and incorporating curved elements, the columns seamlessly integrate with the overall design, adding to the overall aesthetic appeal.

In summary, this design by Hsiao Chi Chiang showcases the perfect balance between affordability and luxury. The use of dark tones, a variety of materials, and curved elements creates a visually captivating and inviting space. The attention to detail and commitment to environmentally friendly materials further enhance the overall appeal of this dream home.
