The Collection of Formosa Terroir was inspired by PH7 Creative Lab's long-standing partnership with Taiwan's agricultural industry. The design firm selected four locally representative products - 92 Coffee (Mountain), dried wax apple (Sea), slow brewed tea (Heaven), and jasmine tea (Earth) - to highlight the diversity and quality of Taiwan's agricultural output. Each product was chosen for its alignment with Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles, reflecting the firm's commitment to sustainable and responsible design.
What sets the Collection of Formosa Terroir apart is its innovative packaging design. The gift box, which houses the four products, is divided into four triangular compartments, each with its own opening. This design not only ensures the products are neatly organized but also creates a sense of anticipation as each compartment is opened in sequence. The result is a packaging design that tells a story, guiding the user through the different agricultural landscapes of Taiwan.
The design process was not without its challenges. PH7 Creative Lab had to overcome traditional thinking within the farmers' associations, which are unique to Taiwan and number close to 300. These associations play a crucial role in improving farmers' knowledge and skills, facilitating agricultural modernization, and developing farming village economies. However, their traditional mindset often limits their marketing and promotional efforts. By introducing branding and design thinking, PH7 Creative Lab was able to create a product that not only showcases the quality of Taiwan's agricultural products but also tells a compelling story about the country's farming heritage.
The Collection of Formosa Terroir is a testament to PH7 Creative Lab's innovative approach to design. The firm's ability to transform traditional agricultural products into a modern, engaging experience earned it the Silver A' Packaging Design Award in 2023. This prestigious award is given to designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise and innovation, and the Collection of Formosa Terroir is a deserving recipient.
In conclusion, PH7 Creative Lab's Collection of Formosa Terroir is a shining example of how design can be used to tell a story, promote sustainability, and showcase a country's unique heritage. It serves as a reminder of the power of design to transform the ordinary into the extraordinary.
