Timeless: A Masterpiece of Residential Design by Satoshi Kurosaki

Exploring the Unique Properties and Inspirations of the Award-Winning Residence

In the heart of Tokyo, a new architectural marvel has emerged. "Timeless," a residential design by Satoshi Kurosaki, is a testament to the harmonious blend of form, function, and inspiration. This article delves into the unique properties and inspirations behind this award-winning design.

The Timeless residence, nestled in a quiet neighborhood of central Tokyo, was designed for a couple transitioning into a new phase of life. The exterior, a simple yet striking design of two massive volumes stacked atop one another, takes full advantage of the corner lot. The façade is a testament to the beauty of raw materials, with exposed concrete imprinted with cedar formwork. The design limits outward-facing windows to horizontal slits, preserving privacy and enhancing security.

The uniqueness of Timeless lies within its interior. The house is defined by two courtyards, one large and the other small, arranged in parallel. The main courtyard, located on the south side, features a bamboo grove that immediately captures the eye upon entry. The smaller, slit-shaped courtyard on the north side is dotted with plantings and serves as a lightwell, filling the first-floor living room, entryway, and a second living room upstairs with pleasant, diffuse light.

The realization of Timeless is a testament to Kurosaki's mastery of materials and technology. The structure is reinforced concrete, with an exterior finish of cedar wood formwork exposed concrete. The flooring varies between tile, walnut, and tatami, while the walls feature tile, acrylic emulsion paint, and elastic lysine spray. The ceiling is made of walnut, and the lighting is LED.

Completed in November 2021, Timeless spans a total floor area of 307.56m2, with the site area being 313.60m2. The design period spanned from April 2018 to May 2020, with the construction period running from June 2020 to November 2021. The residence is a testament to Kurosaki's ability to create a timeless design that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing.

Timeless has been recognized for its design excellence, winning the Silver A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award in 2023. This prestigious award is given to designs that showcase outstanding expertise and innovation, strong technical characteristics, and splendid artistic skill. Timeless is indeed a design that introduces positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.

In conclusion, Timeless is more than a residence; it's a testament to Satoshi Kurosaki's architectural prowess and vision. It's a design that seamlessly blends form and function, creating a living space that is not only aesthetically pleasing but also functional and comfortable. Timeless is a shining example of residential design at its finest.
