When the male owner, a businessman with international ties, sought to establish roots in his homeland, he envisioned a residence that would seamlessly integrate natural elements while offering views of farmland, sea, and cityscape. Si Yun Chen, the visionary behind the Sunlight project, embraced this concept, employing a Nordic palette to craft an interior that resonates with the owner's preferences and the surrounding landscape.
The design's strength lies in its layout: a three-bedroom, two-living space that provides both communal areas for family interaction and individual spaces for personal retreat. The public domain's color scheme—a blend of grey, white, and wood grain—evokes a soft, inviting atmosphere that feels alive from every angle. The open-plan design connects the living room, study, and kitchen, with furniture serving as the subtle delineator of each zone's function.
Si Yun Chen's approach to the Sunlight project was meticulous, starting with a color palette of white and wood grain to reflect the natural Nordic environment. The white base is complemented by wood accents on facades and ceilings, enhancing the interior's material texture. Strategic use of gray paint in the living room and study areas fosters a serene ambiance, while the kitchen's lighter wood grain infuses warmth and vitality.
The Nordic theme extends into the private quarters, where the vocabulary of white and wood grain persists. The master bedroom is adorned with an elegant blue, amplifying the clarity of the sunlight-filled space, while the children's rooms are personalized with vibrant hues such as pink, gray, and blue, catering to the young occupants' preferences.
Functionality and interaction are at the heart of the Sunlight design. The open space encourages family engagement, with furniture volumes defining spatial functions and promoting a fluid circulation. An L-shaped couch in the master bedroom, positioned to overlook the sea, offers a private nook for relaxation. These thoughtful design choices ensure comfort even during extended periods spent indoors.
The project, completed within a span of just three months from July to October 2020 in Taiwan, is a testament to Si Yun Chen's commitment to creating spaces that celebrate life. Despite challenges such as integrating a beam that spans across the sofa to the dining area, the design successfully turns potential obstacles into cohesive elements that enhance the overall aesthetic and functionality.
The Sunlight project by Si Yun Chen, executed by CY Interior Design, has been recognized with the prestigious Iron A' Design Award in 2024, a testament to its well-executed, practical, and innovative design that harmonizes with professional and industrial standards. This residential space not only fulfills the owner's dream but also contributes to the enrichment of the design world.
