Wagamachi: Blending Sauna Serenity with Urban Sophistication

Shunsuke Ohe's Award-Winning Design Revolutionizes Relaxation

In the heart of Osaka, a new sanctuary emerges, offering an escape into luxury and privacy. Wagamachi, designed by Shunsuke Ohe, redefines the traditional sauna experience, infusing it with a bar's social vibrancy.

The Wagamachi project stands as a testament to the evolution of Japanese saunas. Once mere appendages to onsen, these spaces have been transformed into stylish havens. Ohe's design draws inspiration from the dual nature of its urban location, merging the contemporary with the nostalgic to create an atmosphere that is both comforting and otherworldly. The sauna's design, with its dark, luxurious ambiance, invites patrons into a space that feels like a different dimension, catering to those seeking respite, rejuvenation, or simple pleasure.

Wagamachi's design boasts a public sauna, a private sauna, and a bar, each area offering a unique experience. The public and private zones are meticulously crafted, with the private sauna rooms exuding opulence through coral pink walls and stone tiles, all bathed in soft, indirect lighting. The design's strength lies in its ability to provide a complete sensory experience, ensuring privacy and tranquility in a space that feels both intimate and grandiose.

The realization of Wagamachi's design is a marvel of material and technological synthesis. The ceiling incorporates wood, cloth, and metal panels, while the walls and floors feature a mix of wood, carpet, PVC tile, and vinyl sheeting. This material diversity contributes to the space's unique sensory appeal, enhancing the overall experience of luxury and comfort.

Spanning 180.9 square meters, Wagamachi is not just a feast for the eyes but a functional masterpiece. The design intricately conceals the mechanical, plumbing, and air-conditioning facilities, ensuring that the space operates seamlessly without compromising its aesthetic integrity. This harmony between form and function is a critical aspect of Ohe's design philosophy, reflecting a deep understanding of the importance of a space that works as beautifully as it looks.

Research and innovation play a crucial role in Wagamachi's design. The indirect lighting, particularly in the relaxation area, is designed to fluctuate, creating a mesmerizing effect that transports visitors to an otherworldly state of relaxation. This thoughtful approach to lighting, combined with the strategic use of materials and colors, contributes to an immersive experience that transcends the ordinary.

Wagamachi's design excellence has been recognized with a Silver A' Design Award, a testament to Shunsuke Ohe's creative prowess and commitment to innovation. This prestigious accolade underscores the project's significance as a beacon of design, setting new standards for luxury and relaxation in urban environments.
