Shunsuke Ohe's Award-Winning Dual-Family Home

Perched on a sloping terrain, Majestic by Shunsuke Ohe redefines residential architecture. The design, which cleverly utilizes the site's natural incline, presents an illusion of a single-story structure from the front, while concealing an additional level beneath. The façade, a tapestry of natural slate stone and marble tiles, is softened by wooden latticework and white accents, striking a balance between grandeur and warmth.

The interior of Majestic is a stark contrast to its exterior, employing a palette of white and wood grain, complemented by glazed accents. This combination fosters an ambiance that is both inviting and luminous, a sanctuary for the family that dwells within. The design's duality extends to its purpose, serving as a two-family home that accommodates different generations under one roof, a testament to Ohe's thoughtful approach to communal living.

Construction techniques and materials are pivotal to Majestic's allure. The exterior boasts a Galvalume steel sheet roofing, porcelain tiles, and a black natural stone finish that commands attention. Inside, the finishes range from cloth ceilings to flooring that includes carpet and PVC tile, all chosen for their aesthetic and functional qualities.

Technical specifications reveal the project's scope: a 233.3 square meter site with a total floor area of 144.8 square meters. The design's strength lies in its ability to merge communal and private spaces effectively. The main floor, accessible via the second-floor entrance, connects the living room, dining area, and kitchen in a fluid layout, with level differences creating dynamic spaces that double as seating areas.

The design journey of Majestic was not without its challenges. The sloping site demanded innovative solutions to ensure stability, sunlight access, and minimal impact on the surrounding area. The result is a structure that not only meets these functional demands but does so with an aesthetic that is both timeless and universal.
