The design of La Torre is a departure from the conventional. Unlike standard TVs, it does not have a front cover holding the display. Instead, the display is held by a back cabinet hidden behind the panel, creating a sleek and minimalist aesthetic. The thin bezel surrounding the display, made of eloxal, serves merely as a cosmetic illusion. This innovative design approach ensures that the display is the only dominant element, a stark contrast to ordinary TV forms.
The Eiffel Tower served as a source of inspiration for La Torre. The TV shares similarities with the iconic structure, including being reformist for their time and having a similar side view. This connection to a symbol of innovation and design excellence further enhances the TV's unique appeal.
La Torre was assembled using a special technique. The back cabinet holds the display, and the chromated side bezel is mounted to the back part. This intricate assembly process contributes to the TV's distinctive design and high-end appeal.
The design of La Torre presented several creative challenges, including limited dimensions and the use of different materials. As frame bezels become slimmer, differentiating the design from competitors becomes increasingly difficult. The use of metal, a trend in the consumer electronics sector, was a challenging design preference due to its unfamiliarity in production conditions. However, the Vestel ID Team overcame these challenges, resulting in a product that stands out in the market.
Measuring 1079 mm x 634 mm x 34mm, La Torre is a testament to the Vestel ID Team's ability to combine form and function in a compact design. The team, consisting of Burak Emre Altınordu, Itır Senyuz Tumerdem, Mehmet Kaya, and the rest of the VESTEL ID Team, has truly created a design that challenges the status quo.
In conclusion, La Torre represents a significant advancement in TV design. Its unique features and innovative assembly technique, coupled with its inspiration from the Eiffel Tower, make it a worthy recipient of the Golden A' Digital and Electronic Device Design Award. This design serves as a reminder of the limitless possibilities of innovation and creativity in the realm of technology and design.
