Six for All: A Versatile Furniture Design

Reducing Complexity to Simplicity

The Six for All project, designed by Benno Simma, challenges the traditional notion of furniture design by reducing complex objects into a few elementary elements. With only six repeating elements, this innovative design allows users to assemble a complete furniture set, including a chair, bench, bed, table, and shelf.

What sets Six for All apart from other furniture designs is its versatility and simplicity. By using just six repeating elements, users have the freedom to create various furniture configurations to suit their needs. This design provides a unique opportunity for customization, allowing individuals to express their creativity and adapt their furniture to different spaces.

The realization of the Six for All design is made possible through the use of advanced technology. The elements are produced using a CNC digital milling machine, utilizing plywood and pressed wood-fiber. This combination of materials ensures a lightweight and eco-friendly solution, while the precision of the CNC milling machine guarantees a high-quality finish.

The modular nature of the Six for All design allows for flexibility in terms of size and dimensions. The basic element measures 450x450x450 mm, and multiples of this module can be used to create furniture of any desired size. This adaptability makes Six for All suitable for various interior spaces, whether it be a small apartment or a spacious office.

Benno Simma, along with the design team members from Bolzano|Bozen, Laives|Leifers, and Merano|Meran, have created a design that prioritizes functionality and user experience. The Six for All project is intended for the end consumer, providing them with a wide range of options for assembling furniture in different ways, all with just six elements.

The Six for All design has been showcased at various exhibitions, starting with its first presentation at the ES Gallery in Merano in October 2011. It has since been displayed at Artspace in Bolzano in March 2012 and is set to be exhibited at the Archivio Sacchi in Sesto San Giovanni (MI) in April 2012.

One of the notable achievements of the Six for All design is its recognition at the A' Design Award. In 2012, it was awarded the Bronze A' Furniture Design Award, which honors designs that demonstrate creativity, resourcefulness, and a commitment to improving quality of life. This accolade highlights the technical and creative skills employed in the design process, as well as the positive impact it has on the world.

The Six for All project is a testament to the power of simplicity and innovation in furniture design. By reducing furniture to its essential elements, Benno Simma has created a design that is not only aesthetically pleasing but also highly functional and adaptable. With its eco-friendly materials and customizable configurations, Six for All offers a fresh perspective on interior design, allowing individuals to create spaces that reflect their unique style and needs.
