The inspiration for the Verico Penpal came from the current trend of simple yet functional products. The design team looked to the Apple Concept for inspiration, focusing on creating a product that was both practical and aesthetically pleasing. The result was a multifunctional device that eliminated the need to carry multiple items, whether at work or school.
One of the unique properties of the Verico Penpal is its use of Chip on Board (COB) technology, making it both dust and water-proof. This technology also allowed the design team to create the smallest USB 3.0 flash drive in the world. The Verico Penpal's compact size and multifunctional design make it a trendsetter in the market.
The Verico Penpal was not without its challenges. Combining two different functional products into one required extensive research and experimentation. The initial design was too large due to the size of the USB flash drive, prompting the team to find a way to reduce its size. The solution came in the form of the COB technology, which allowed for the creation of a much smaller USB 3.0. Additionally, the team had to spend a significant amount of time designing the perfect angle for the sharpener to ensure the optimal sharpness of the pencil.
The Verico Penpal was designed and produced in Taipei, Taiwan, over the course of a year, from May 2011 to May 2012. The main material used in its construction is Zinc alloy, which underwent three stages of processing: casting, surface polishing, and electroplating. The final product measures 45.5 x 14.65 x 14 mm and weighs 14g, making it a compact and lightweight solution for data storage and pencil sharpening needs.
The Platinum A' Design Award recognizes world-class, exceptional, and highly innovative designs that showcase unmatched professionalism, genius, and contribute to societal wellbeing. The Verico Penpal, with its innovative design and practical functionality, is a deserving recipient of this prestigious award.
