Our House: A Unique Media Store Design

Reinventing the Shopping Experience with Innovation and Technology

The store is based around the idea of a ‘Media Street’. The concept was about creating a thread to hang a more readable story on for the customers. It looks like part of a street, so it’s a half-constructed house, and when you walk in you see things like the fibre-optics.

Allen International, a renowned design team, has created a groundbreaking retail experience with their design for Our House, a media store located in Westfield London, UK. This innovative design, inspired by the concept of a 'Media Street', aims to reinvent the shopping experience through a combination of cutting-edge technology, immersive sensory experiences, and a touch of Virgin magic.

What sets Our House apart from other retail spaces is its unrivaled 'wow' factor. The store features kinetic gesture-controlled screens and interactive panels, allowing customers to engage with the products and services in a unique and intuitive way. An interactive mobile wall further enhances the immersive experience, providing customers with a dynamic and engaging interface.

One of the notable features of Our House is the absence of traditional tills. This forward-thinking design decision eliminates the need for long queues and provides a seamless and efficient checkout process. Customers can browse, select, and purchase products and services with ease, enhancing their overall shopping experience.

The store is divided into different zones to simplify the shopping process. Upon entering, customers are greeted by high-definition digital doors featuring familiar faces such as Richard Branson, Mo Farah, Usain Bolt, or even a T-Rex. Media products are displayed on the left side of the store, while mobile products and services are located towards the rear. The 'shed' area offers refreshments and a comfortable space for customers to relax, while the garden space provides an opportunity for customers to sit with staff and discuss products and services in a more personalized setting.

Our House, with its unique design and innovative features, provides a platform for Virgin Media to showcase their next-generation services. The store's dimensions of 105sqm ensure that customers have ample space to explore and interact with the various offerings. The project, completed in December 2012, took three months to bring to life.

This exceptional design has not gone unnoticed, as Our House was awarded the prestigious Iron A' Design Award in 2013. This accolade recognizes the design's practicality, innovation, and ability to meet professional and industrial requirements. It is a testament to the integration of industry best practices and competent technical characteristics that contribute to a better world.
