BRAND NEW PACKAGING DESIGN FOR PAINTS

Colourland Paints, the No. 1 Malaysia Paint Manufacturer and Distributor, has undergone a complete packaging makeover to compete with renowned international brands such as Nippon Paints, Dulux, and Jotun Paints. The new design, created by Jeffery Yap, breathes new life into the brand's identity and aims to make the packaging truly "live up in colours" like never before.

The inspiration behind the redesign was to revive Colourland Paints' brand personality and style, giving it a fresh and competitive look. The goal was to create packaging that stands out on the shelves of major hypermarkets and hardware stores. Jeffery Yap focused on infusing the spirit of "live up in colours" into the design, aligning it with the brand's core identity.

The unique properties of the new packaging design lie in its ability to differentiate Colourland Paints from its competitors. By incorporating a 360-degree total makeover, the design sets a new standard for the brand. The vibrant and colourful packaging captures the essence of "live up in colours" and positions Colourland Paints as a top contender in the Southeast Asian market.

The design is realized using PVC coated barrels and 4-colour printed gloss lamination stickers. The specifications for the packaging are 5 litres with a width of 18cm and a height of 23cm.

Jeffery Yap, along with his team members, embarked on this design journey in July 2013. The aim was to challenge the norms of paint packaging and create a simple yet impactful design that reflects the brand's personality. After two months of brainstorming and refining multiple design ideas, the final designs were presented to the Colourland board of directors.

The research for this design went beyond paint packaging. The team also studied trends in pharmaceutical, beverage, liquor, and food product packaging to create a breakthrough visual impact in the market, particularly in Southeast Asia.

One of the main challenges was to differentiate Colourland Paints from its competitors, such as Nippon Paints, WTP Paints, Asian Paints, and Dulux Paints. The design had to be dynamically different and take risks in challenging the paint packaging industry. Simplicity and easy recognition by consumers were also key considerations.

The new packaging design for Colourland Paints has set a higher standard in design quality and ease of use. It caters to various painting needs and incorporates the brand's motto of "live up in colours." This redesign not only positions Colourland Paints as a top player in the industry but also paves the way for future product development.
