Musical Landscapes and the Goddess

An Exhibition Exploring the Intersection of Music, Art, and Spirituality

The Musical Landscapes and the Goddesses of Music is an exhibition presenting advances in interactive art through an exploration of the science, art, and spirituality of Music, and its reflections in the Goddess images across Asian cultures.

The exhibition, curated by Makkuni Ranjit, showcases the unique connection between music and spirituality, offering visitors an immersive experience that transcends traditional boundaries. Through a collection of interactive exhibits, the project delves into the cultural and spiritual aesthetics of sound and musical landscapes.

One of the highlights of the exhibition is the presentation of both traditional and new instruments based on various Asian cultures. Instruments such as the Indian Sitar, Burmese Saung Harp, Thai Xylophone, Korean Kayagum, Chinese Guzheng and Pipa, Vietnamese Dan Tranh, Javanese & Balinese Gamelan, and chanting are showcased, demonstrating the rich diversity of musical traditions across Asia.

What sets this exhibition apart is the integration of technology to enhance the interactive experience. New instruments with embedded computation allow for interactions through gesture, touch, pull, movement, gaze, and kinesthetic action. Visitors can control musical events in the exhibition environment through their position, gestures, and movements, creating a truly immersive and participatory experience.

The exhibition, held at the National Museum in New Delhi from November 28, 2013, to January 15, 2014, spans over 1000 square meters, providing ample space for visitors to explore and engage with the musical landscapes and the goddesses of music.

The Musical Landscapes and the Goddesses of Music exhibition presents a vision for a society centered on innovation, well-being, and compassion. By bridging the gap between traditional cultures and technology-based cultures, it aims to create a harmonious blend of the old and the new, celebrating the power of music to create solitude and calm in our technology-centric world.

This groundbreaking exhibition received the prestigious Iron A' Design Award in 2014, recognizing its well-designed, practical, and innovative approach to cultural heritage and the culture industry. The exhibition's integration of industry best practices and competent technical characteristics contributes to a better world, fulfilling visitors with positive feelings and a deeper appreciation for the art of music.
