Strabo Sofa: A Dynamic and Modern Design

The Strabo Sofa was originally created as part of a store design, aiming to establish a new brand with a strong and distinctive identity. The inspiration for this design came from the dynamic and energetic nature of triangles. By incorporating this shape into the furniture, Novikovs was able to create a visually striking appearance while maintaining comfort and functionality.

What sets the Strabo Sofa apart from others is its unique shape and sense of motion. The sofa appears as if it is stretching and pulling itself in every direction, reflecting our fast-paced lives and dynamic lifestyles. This design gives the Strabo Sofa a fresh and recognizable look that is sure to make a statement in any interior.

The realization of the Strabo Sofa involved a combination of wood and fiberglass to achieve the smooth and complex curvature of the furniture. The soft elements, such as the padding, are made from foam and upholstered with distinct fabrics and leathers. The color scheme of the furniture is highly flexible, allowing for various arrangements and the possibility of releasing different editions to constantly refresh the range of this design.

The Strabo Sofa measures approximately 2520mm in length, 880mm in depth, and 980mm in height. The accompanying Strabo Chair has dimensions of 795mm in length, 760mm in depth, and 1040mm in height. These dimensions ensure that both the sofa and chair provide ample seating space while maintaining their unique and dynamic shape.

Designed to provide a comfortable and relaxing experience, the Strabo Sofa and Chair create a semi-enclosed space that gives a sense of privacy and embraces the user. The interaction with this furniture is both inviting and comforting, making it an ideal choice for those seeking a cozy and stylish seating option.

The Strabo Sofa project started in October 2013 and was completed in May 2015. Throughout the design process, Novikovs faced the challenge of merging dynamic and sharp geometric forms with organic and smooth curves. After numerous sketches and 3D tests, he was able to achieve the perfect balance between these contrasting characteristics, resulting in the striking Strabo Sofa and Chair.

With its innovative design and attention to detail, the Strabo Sofa has garnered recognition in the design community. In 2016, it was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category. This prestigious award acknowledges designs that demonstrate creativity, resourcefulness, and a commitment to improving the quality of life.
