PplusP Studio 2: A Nostalgic and Innovative Office Design

Creating a Cozy and Inspiring Workspace

Abandoned traditional cubicle office layout, PplusP Designers has adopted a different approach in their office design. With the belief that a creative working environment helps stimulate minds and inspire innovations, the second studio of PplusP Designers was designed with a mood of modern American factory. Instead of a tedious office surrounded by white walls and white fluorescent tubes, the ambiance of the environment tends to cultivate a homey and nostalgic feeling. Our design director, Wesley Liu, laid out all the boutique collections as well as his DIY creations.

Walking into this expanded studio, guests are invited to enter the reception area through a long corridor. As they take off their shoes and change into slippers, the cozy and relaxing atmosphere of home begins. At the corner, a hand-blown white smoked glass made in Murano, called GLÒ Incasso, serves as a piece of art and a lighting element. A matching hand-poured, free-form glass plate is placed below the suspended 'Drop' for an added touch of amusement. Moving past the conference room, the atmosphere harmonizes the reaction of all the senses.

The workspace itself is designed to be tranquil. Wesley Liu chiseled the Bank of China Tower on the white wall, creating a textured silhouette of the city skyline. Different brushstrokes were used to paint this mural. The bluish sky ceiling and light jazz music played throughout the room further enhance the tranquility. Traditional cubicles have been replaced by long benches, bringing artists closer to each other and encouraging communication, which often leads to genius ideas. Adjacent to the workspace is a table-tennis area, providing both entertainment and a space for internal meetings.

The design specifications of PplusP Studio 2 include a total area of 1750 square feet. The project started in February and was completed in May 2015 in Hong Kong.

The design of the studio extends beyond the workspace. In Wesley's room, cork wall insulation brings a deep tone that integrates well with the teapot pendant light, wooden furniture, denim sofa collection, antique accessories, and artwork. The large window allows ample daylight to enter, reducing the need for artificial lighting during the day and offering a panoramic sea view. The wooden window connects Wesley's room to the secretariat, facilitating clear and efficient communication between Wesley and his secretary.

The toilet area is another focal point of the design. Hand-painted cylindrical basins, illuminated mirrors, and a notice board from an old railway station in London cleverly match with red bricks and cement, creating a playful and nostalgic atmosphere. The natural fragrance in the room echoes the presence of plants, contributing to a restful vibe in an earthy tone.

As a whole, this regenerative and liberalizing studio has been carefully designed to encompass the mood, materials, and ornaments found in factories, blending them perfectly with modern elements. It provides designers and guests with a breath of fresh air away from hectic life while enjoying their design experience and practice.

The design of PplusP Studio 2 was awarded Bronze in the A' Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design Award in 2016. This prestigious award recognizes outstanding and creatively ingenious designs that authenticate experience and resourcefulness. The studio's incorporation of best practices in art, science, design, and technology exhibits strong technical and creative skills, contributing to quality of life improvements and making the world a better place.
