Transforming Battery Storage and Organization

Battery packaging has always been a hassle, but MoGu's Better-Ray design aims to change that.

Opening battery packages can be a frustrating experience, and once opened, they often lose their functionality to hold the remaining batteries. Additionally, organizing used batteries can be a challenge. Recognizing these issues, MoGu set out to improve battery packaging with their innovative design, Better-Ray.

What sets Better-Ray apart from traditional battery packages is its focus on user-friendliness and environmental sustainability. Unlike the heavy and uninspiring designs commonly found in the market, Better-Ray's packaging is bright and delightful, matching the user's personality. The package features an engineering circuit diagram that showcases how a battery works, and a switch that can be connected to different circuits.

The inspiration for Better-Ray's design came from the history of batteries, which were first used in mp3 players, bringing people not only electricity but also music, love, and life. MoGu wanted to capture this essence and create a package that transcends its functional purpose.

To ensure easy manufacturing and eco-friendliness, Better-Ray is made from simple hard paper. The package has a one-way in, one-way out system for the batteries, allowing users to easily organize new and used batteries by separating them with a piece of paper. Once all the batteries have been used, the separating paper drops to the bottom, preventing the inside batteries from being taken out. The entire box can then be recycled.

The revolution of Better-Ray lies in its ability to contain both new and used batteries without mixing them. Users no longer need to find a new box to hold the used batteries. The package's unique structure eliminates the need for users to think or remember specific actions, as it has settled the actions of use. There is only one way to take a battery out or put one inside, and when all the new batteries have been taken out, the separating paper drops to the bottom, indicating that all the products have been used. Users can simply take the box to a recycling facility, knowing that all the batteries are contained within.

The Better-Ray project was initiated in March 2015 and completed in May 2015 in New York. MoGu conducted extensive research to ensure that the design met the standards of preserving, carrying, organizing, and appealing. The choice of paper as the primary material was based on its accessibility, functionality, and cost-effectiveness.

MoGu faced several challenges in creating Better-Ray. The design had to not only match the level of professional graphic design but also provide an excellent user experience. The package had to be more than just a box; it had to function as a vending machine that effortlessly allowed users to interact and retrieve batteries.

The Better-Ray design has been recognized for its ingenuity and creativity, receiving the Bronze A' Design Award in Packaging Design in 2016. This prestigious award is bestowed upon designs that exhibit strong technical and creative skills, contribute to quality of life improvements, and make the world a better place.
