The building is a five-level structure, with the ground and first floors serving as the main entrance and commercial units. The second to fourth floors are dedicated to office spaces, while the roof floor houses a café and restaurant, providing indoor and outdoor areas for the building's users. This mixed-use concept allows for a dynamic and versatile environment.
One of the key features of the Productive Cooperative Union is its implementation of green architecture. The building incorporates a courtyard in the middle, which provides natural lighting and ventilation to all spaces. Additionally, the irregular use of glass curtain walls on the facades refracts the sun's rays, creating a desired lighting effect inside the building. This sustainable design approach enhances the overall experience for occupants and reduces the building's environmental impact.
With a plot size of 1612 sqm and a total built-up area of 804 sqm, the Productive Cooperative Union stands at a height of 21.5 meters. Its unique triangular shape and beige stone cladding on the facades help identify the building blocks, adding to its visual appeal and making it a recognizable structure in the area.
The location of the building, next to the Great Pyramids, posed several challenges during the design process. The architect had to ensure that the building acted as a landmark and complemented the historical surroundings. The composite function of the building as a mixed-use structure, along with the implementation of green architecture, added to the complexity of the project. However, through careful planning and innovative design solutions, these challenges were successfully overcome.
The Productive Cooperative Union is not only visually striking but also functional. The building is divided into separate commercial and administrative parts, connected only by escape stairs. Each part has its own entrance from the main façade, ensuring efficient operations and a seamless user experience.
Designed by Sameh Farid Architects, the Productive Cooperative Union is a testament to the fusion of art, architecture, design, and technology. It serves as a reflection of the historical area surrounding it, while also embracing modern concepts of sustainability and functionality. This outstanding design was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in 2016, recognizing its creativity, resourcefulness, and contribution to quality of life improvements.
