Vito Noto's inspiration for "Giorno - Notte" was born from a desire to innovate the traditional twelve-hour clock system. The design gives the hour hand greater importance than the minute hand, making it longer and easier to read. This principle is what facilitates the unique reading of the watch.
What sets "Giorno - Notte" apart from other wristwatches is its unique feature of displaying twenty-four hours. The movement of the hours is highlighted by a circle that represents the sun during the day, or the moon during the night. This celestial body moves around a planet on the orbit of the hours, while a stylized arrow indicates the minutes on an inner circumference. This design makes reading the hours more instinctive than the conventional system, as it displays the circle of the whole day, moving twenty-four times slower than the minute hand.
The wristwatch comes in two versions. One has a case and watchstrap made of stainless steel, while the other features a case in light alloy with PVD finish and a leather watchstrap. Both versions are equipped with quartz movement, sapphire crystal, and anti-reflective coating. The "Giorno - Notte" is a 24-hour wristwatch with a 34 mm case and a Swiss-made movement, a testament to its high-quality craftsmanship.
The design of "Giorno - Notte" hasn't gone unnoticed in the design world. In 2017, it was awarded the Golden A' Jewelry, Eyewear, and Watch Design Award. This prestigious accolade is granted to marvelous, outstanding, and trendsetting creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom. It is a venerated product and bright idea that advances art, science, design, and technology, embodying extraordinary excellence and significantly impacting the world with its desirable characteristics.
With "Giorno - Notte," Vito Noto has truly revolutionized the concept of timekeeping. This wristwatch is not just a device to tell time, but a piece of art that reflects the continuous movement of the sun and moon, providing a unique perspective on the passage of time.
