Enn by Erling: A Minimalist Solution for AirPods

Magnetic Brooch Keeps AirPods in Place and Within Reach

Designed by Jens Munkeby, the Enn by Erling is a functional piece of jewelry that uses magnetism to keep AirPods secure and easily accessible. Inspired by the principles of minimalism and essentialism, this design is a testament to the beauty of simplicity and function.

The Enn by Erling is more than just a brooch; it's a solution to a common problem faced by AirPod users. The small size of AirPods makes them easy to lose or misplace. Munkeby's design addresses this issue by providing a secure place to keep the AirPods when they're not in use. The brooch uses rare earth magnets to attract the magnets inside the AirPods, keeping them in place and within reach.

The design process for the Enn by Erling was a journey of self-discovery and learning for Munkeby. He taught himself how to use 3D software, 3D printing, and jewelry design. He experimented with different types of magnets and used 3D printing to find the perfect curvature for the AirPods to dock perfectly each time. The final product is made from polished brass or silver-plated rare earth magnets.

The Enn by Erling is not just a product, but a philosophy. It embodies Munkeby's belief in the beauty of simplicity and function. This philosophy was inspired by his grandfather Erling, who grew up in Norway during the 1940s when resources were scarce. To Erling, beautiful design meant doing a lot with little, a principle that Munkeby holds onto in his designs.

The Enn by Erling was launched on Kickstarter in February 2017 and has since been recognized for its innovative design. It was awarded the Silver A' Digital and Electronic Device Design Award in 2017, a prestigious accolade given to designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise and innovation.

Through the Enn by Erling, Munkeby has shown that design is not just about aesthetics, but also about solving problems and enhancing functionality. It's a testament to the power of simplicity and the beauty of function, principles that are at the heart of good design.
