Mac Station: A Minimalist and Functional Store Design

Achieving Simplicity and Efficiency in Store Design

Mac Station, designed by Odyssey Babasadeghian, is a small yet visually stunning store that overcame the challenges of limited space, time constraints, and a tight budget. With a focus on simplicity and functionality, this design provides a unique and representative space for the store's specific brand.

The main concept behind Mac Station is simplicity. The interior surfaces are covered in exposed cement, creating a modern and minimalistic aesthetic. To add a pop of color and contrast, five famous colors of products are incorporated into the furniture and window panels. This not only minimizes costs and construction time but also ensures a harmonious interior that aligns with the store's concept.

The realization of Mac Station involved traditional construction methods, with the use of exposed cement covering all interior surfaces. This not only provided a unique visual appeal but also acted as an isolation layer for the interior space. The construction process was considerably streamlined, saving both time and cost.

Mac Station is a 23 square meter store with a height of 4.5 meters. It features three large windows on three sides, allowing ample natural light to flood the space. To maximize the limited space, a small balcony was built using the height of the store. Additionally, all benches and counters were designed with internal storage spaces, addressing the challenge of limited storage.

The design of Mac Station was inspired by extensive research and analysis. As a store for selling and fixing electronic devices, the designer conducted field studies and interviews with customers to understand their needs. It was discovered that customers sought consultation before making a purchase or getting their devices fixed. They also desired a comfortable and inviting space with a variety of samples to choose from. On the other hand, the store's staff preferred a modern and practical workspace with adequate lighting and a dedicated repair area. The design successfully addressed these needs and created a space that catered to both customers and staff.

The Mac Station project began in January 2017 and was completed in February 2017 in Tehran, Iran. Despite facing financial constraints, time limitations, and space challenges, the designer managed to create a functional and visually appealing store that met the requirements of the brand.

Mac Station received recognition for its outstanding design and creativity, winning the Bronze A' Design Award in 2017 in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category. This award acknowledges designs that demonstrate resourcefulness, technical skills, and contributions to improving quality of life.

Mac Station is a testament to the power of simplicity and efficient design. By utilizing exposed cement, incorporating vibrant colors, and maximizing limited space, this store design offers a unique and inviting experience for customers and staff alike.
