Carlo Berarducci Architecture's Innovative Office Design

Raw Materials Meet Polished Surfaces in a Unique Workspace

In the realm of office design, Carlo Berarducci Architecture has crafted a unique space that marries raw materials with polished surfaces. The design, inspired by the studio's work on infrastructure environmental impact studies, aims to create a stimulating and exciting environment that encourages interaction while providing privacy when needed.

The design of the office, named VDP, is a testament to the innovative approach of Carlo Berarducci Architecture. The firm has managed to create a space that is open and light-filled, thanks to a long, uninterrupted window wall facing the street. At the same time, the design ensures privacy and separation between different working areas, a requirement of the client. This has been achieved by completely emptying the space of all existing partitions and then refilling it with three box-like volumes to separate the different areas.

One of the unique features of the design is the use of raw and poor materials in contrast with polished green lacquered surfaces. The concrete of the preexisting pillars and beams, new concrete tiles pavements, and new wall concrete plaster are juxtaposed with flamed natural iron sheets used as wall covering for the box-like volume containing the service spaces. The green polished timber gratings used as back to the reception desk, the waiting space close to the entrance, and the library, and the meeting room at the bottom of the space add a touch of sophistication.

The office design also incorporates a unique light box ceiling with a simple rectangular shape that illuminates all the spaces with uniform light, further unifying the spaces into a whole. All installations are exposed, with their metal sheets, tubes, and air machines left naked hanging from the ceiling. This design choice enhances the raw, industrial feel of the space.

The VDP office design by Carlo Berarducci Architecture has been recognized for its innovation and excellence. It was a finalist in the Inside Award in the Office Category at the World Architectural Festival in Berlin in November 2016. Furthermore, the design was awarded Silver in the A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2017, a testament to its creative and professionally remarkable design.

Carlo Berarducci Architecture's VDP office design is a shining example of how a workspace can be both functional and aesthetically pleasing. By using a mix of raw materials and polished surfaces, the firm has created a space that is stimulating and exciting, yet comfortable and conducive to work. This innovative approach to office design sets a new standard for workspaces of the future.
