The Nassim Quattro project, nestled in the affluent Nassim Road precinct of Singapore, is a unique architectural marvel. The design concept was inspired by the supreme art of music, with the architectural volumes representing a solid symphony on a musical score. This score is embodied by a red bronze trellis that spans across the entire building, functioning both as a shading device for the rooftop terraces and an integral element in the composition of Nassim Quattro's architecture.
Despite the site's triangular shape and gentle slope, Mercurio Design Lab S.r.l managed to incorporate four 'bungalows' into one complex. This innovative approach was driven by the need to optimize the use of the expensive plot of land and to create a sense of living in a landed house set amongst lush gardens and grand tropical hardwood trees. The design challenge was to transform the experience of four connected units into one, providing each unit with a sense of individuality and privacy.
The design of Nassim Quattro is characterized by a rhythmic interplay of solids and voids, verticals and horizontals, and contrasting palettes, reminiscent of a piece of contrapuntal music. The largely glazed facade is defined by a powerful interlocking composition of orthogonal travertine frames, communicating a surging rhythm that is unified by the red bronze trellis. This trellis, spanning the entire length of the building, provides shade to the rooftop terraces and mimics a musical score.
Mercurio Design Lab S.r.l's innovative approach extends to the use of technology in the realization of Nassim Quattro. The design maximizes natural light, with abundant daylight pouring into the living room and dining areas through a curtain wall system, reducing the need for artificial lighting. Shading devices, low-e performance glass, and reflective pools are incorporated to reduce solar heat gain and provide cooling effects. The use of reclaimed wood, energy-efficient windows, and LED lights further enhance the building's energy efficiency.
The Nassim Quattro project commenced in January 2013 and concluded in March 2017. Despite the site's challenging triangular shape and gentle slope, Mercurio Design Lab S.r.l successfully transformed the space into a luxurious residential complex. The project was awarded the Golden A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award in 2017, a testament to the team's innovative approach and commitment to excellence.
In conclusion, Nassim Quattro is a testament to Mercurio Design Lab S.r.l's innovative approach to architectural design. By drawing inspiration from music and integrating advanced technology, the team has created a residential complex that redefines luxury living. The project serves as a shining example of how architecture, nature, and technology can be seamlessly blended to create a unique living experience.
