The Armour series is a testament to Komov's meticulous research and technical analysis of medieval armour joints and aesthetics. The rings, which vary in size, are crafted from brass, gold, and silver, and are finished with leather laces, blackening, texturing, and sewing. The result is a collection of pieces that are both rough and rustic, yet undeniably sophisticated.
What sets the Armour series apart from other jewellery designs is its unique interaction features. Some rings need to be tightened with leather laces, while the longer rings are designed to intentionally fix the phalanx of the finger when worn. This attention to detail and functionality is a testament to Komov's dedication to his craft.
The creation of the Armour series was not without its challenges. Komov and his team, which included Katerina Komova, Yuri Zotov, and Daria Kozlova, created more than 30 versions of metal textures before settling on the final variants. The result is a collection that is as diverse as it is cohesive, reflecting the varied aesthetics of the armour pieces that inspired it.
The Armour series was exhibited at the State Historical Museum in Moscow in March 2017, where it was met with critical acclaim. The design was awarded the Golden A' Jewelry, Eyewear and Watch Design Award in 2017, a prestigious accolade granted to designs that reflect extraordinary excellence and significantly impact the world with their desirable characteristics.
With the Armour series, Komov has successfully brought the aesthetics of the past into the present, creating a collection of rings that are as functional as they are beautiful. His innovative approach to design and his commitment to craftsmanship make the Armour series a standout addition to any jewellery collection.
