The Clock Tower: A Timeless Blend of Nostalgia and Modernity

Reviving Memories and Creating New Ones

The Clock Tower, designed by nexus design integrated, is a captivating restaurant and bar that transports visitors to the old colonial British schools in the Himalayan regions of India. With its classical colonial Victorian style and attention to detail, this unique establishment offers a space for friends to come together and relive cherished memories.

The Clock Tower, located in Gurgaon, India, is not just a place to dine and drink; it is an experience that evokes a sense of nostalgia and camaraderie. The designers at nexus design integrated aimed to create a space where old friends could reunite and reminisce about the golden times they shared. To achieve this, the building underwent a complete makeover, both in terms of its facade and interior design.

The exterior of The Clock Tower is reminiscent of an old school nestled in the Himalayan hills. The existing brickwork was cleared to expose the column and beam structures, and the first-floor slab was removed to create a double-height ground floor. The walls were constructed using lightweight siporex blocks, which were then clad with grey Indian Quartz stone, commonly found in the hilly regions of North India. The addition of moldings made out of pure cement further enhanced the building's classical charm.

Technical specifications of The Clock Tower include a sloping roof made of a mild steel frame, covered with shingles. Gable windows, crafted from fiberglass and wood, were added to the sloping roof, allowing natural light to flood the interior. The attention to detail in the design and construction process ensures that every aspect of The Clock Tower exudes a timeless elegance.

Upon arrival, guests are greeted by a long driveway lined with tall trees, which partially obscures the building from the main road. As they approach the building, it gradually reveals itself in all its glory. The driveway culminates in a small garden, providing a tranquil space for guests to take in the full view of The Clock Tower. A sacred fig tree, conserved on the site, adds a touch of natural beauty to the overall ambiance.

The Clock Tower project, which began in February 2016 and was completed in October 2016, involved extensive research into colonial buildings from the early to mid-1900s in India and Europe. This research helped the designers at nexus design integrated achieve the right proportions and elements for the exterior and interior works. The challenge lay in adapting these grand proportions to a smaller scale while maintaining the same level of grandeur.

The Clock Tower has received recognition for its outstanding design. It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Architecture, Building, and Structure Design category in 2017. This prestigious award celebrates designs that demonstrate creativity, resourcefulness, and a commitment to improving quality of life through art, science, design, and technology.

Step into The Clock Tower and be transported to a bygone era, where memories are cherished and new ones are created. This unique establishment is a testament to the power of design to evoke emotions and create unforgettable experiences.
