The Aesthetics of Lohas Residence

Residential House with a Touch of Industrial Style

The Aesthetics of Lohas Residence, designed by Szu-Wei Song, combines industrial style with warm tones, indoor plants, and vibrant colors to create a unique and inviting living environment. This residential house is a perfect blend of functionality, art, and sustainability.

The design of Lohas Residence is inspired by the designer's observation of domestic life and her role as a mother. The goal was to create an ideal environment for parenting and child development. The design incorporates natural elements and energy through the use of rich colors, flooding the space with light and embellishing it with greenery. The result is a space that energizes and connects with both the indoor and outdoor environment.

What sets Lohas Residence apart is the designer's expertise in color and art, which is seamlessly integrated with the functionality required for daily life. The space is layered with a patchwork of various materials that complement each other, creating a unique visual effect. The industrial style is softened with warm tones, indoor plants, and bright colors, transforming it into a fashionable city residence with a new factory chic aesthetic.

The realization of Lohas Residence involved the use of various techniques and materials. Faux concrete finishes were applied to partial interior walls, while special paint coatings were used on feature walls to channel energy from assorted colors. Galvanized steel was used to cover the main beam and structural columns, enhancing the visual and spatial perception. The walls of the residential mechanical room were adorned with oriented strand boards for photo display, adding a focal point to the space. The use of joined dyed hardwood throughout the home adds a natural and artistic touch.

The design specifications of Lohas Residence include a total floor area of approximately 70 pings (approximately 2312 square feet). The living area is designed to maximize natural light, with large windows and an open-plan layout. Existing beams and columns are covered with materials and colors that add visual interest. The facade design encloses present facilities, such as the residential mechanical room and the distribution transformer, creating a unique home style aesthetic.

The interaction of the space in Lohas Residence is emphasized through the extension of the industrial style lexicon and the harmonious medley of diverse media. The design incorporates side cabinets and laminate panels in fractional spaces to maximize floor efficiency and provide additional storage options.

Lohas Residence was completed in June 2017 in Taipei, Taiwan. The design was a result of extensive research into industrial style and its potential for creating a warm and family-oriented living environment. The challenges faced during the design process included modifying and beautifying exposed ceilings, structural beams and columns, and other existing features. The reconstruction of the front and back balconies also presented a challenge in maximizing and directing sunlight to each area.

The Aesthetics of Lohas Residence is a winner of the prestigious A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category. This award recognizes well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. The design of Lohas Residence integrates industry best practices and competent technical characteristics, providing fulfillment and positive feelings, and contributing to a better world.
