Quinta do Vallado's three-century journey is beautifully encapsulated in 224 pages. The book, designed, laid out, and produced by Omdesign, is not just a narration of the estate's history but a testament to its quality wines that have gained worldwide recognition. The book's unique properties lie in its ability to seamlessly blend the past, present, and future through carefully selected, emblematic pictures that depict the estate's evolution.
The book's design is as distinctive as the story it tells. It features a hardcover with a sand varnish, designed to awaken the sensory side of the reader. The family crest, printed in low and high relief, adds a special finishing touch. The careful selection of materials and textures ensures that readers will be captivated as they leaf through the pages.
The book measures 290 mm in width, 25 mm in depth, and 280 mm in height. It is a bilingual publication, designed to preserve and perpetuate the 300-year history of Quinta do Vallado. The design process, which began in February 2016 in Porto, Portugal, and concluded in October, was not without its challenges. The primary challenge was to create a minimalist design that reinforced the estate's main values while accommodating two languages.
The design process was underpinned by extensive research. Quinta do Vallado is located in Douro, the oldest demarcated region in the world and a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2001. The research aimed to create a distinctive book that reflected the estate's values. The result is a book that not only tells the story of Quinta do Vallado but also portrays the history, landscapes, vineyards, structures, artworks, labels, and owners that have shaped the estate over the past 300 years.
The '300 Years' book has received international recognition, winning the Golden A' Print and Published Media Design Award in 2018. This award is granted to creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom, embody extraordinary excellence, and significantly impact the world with their desirable characteristics. The book is a testament to Omdesign's commitment to creating designs that are not only visually appealing but also tell a compelling story.
