Anousha Razavi's Kashan Dome Collection: A Harmony of Art, Architecture, and Jewelry

The Kashan Dome Collection draws its inspiration from the celestial ceiling of the Grand Bazaar in Kashan, an ancient city celebrated for its architectural and artistic splendor. The collection features 18k yellow gold, diamonds, tourmalines, Swiss blue topaz, amethysts, and London blue topaz, all meticulously chosen to mirror the intricate details of the Bazaar’s dome. The dome, traditionally viewed as a passage from earth to the heavens, is represented in the collection as a flower, a sight one would see when gazing upwards at the heavens.

What sets this collection apart is its unique stone cutting technique that minimizes error margins, along with its setting techniques. Each stone's color is harmoniously balanced with the others, creating a sense of unity and balance. The spiritual emotions evoked when admiring the domes are meticulously captured in each piece of jewelry. The collection is a testament to Razavi's ability to transform architectural inspiration into tangible, wearable art.

The creation process of the Kashan Dome Collection involves advanced technologies and traditional craftsmanship. The designs are first created on 3D programs, 3D printed, and cast to be used as a mold. The stones are then hand-cut using advanced cutting technologies. The materials used include 18k Gold and specially hand-cut gemstones such as London blue topaz, Amethyst, Swiss Blue topaz, and Tourmalines.

The collection, which started in June and was completed in October 2017 in Los Angeles, required extensive cultural research. Razavi delved into 2500 years of art and culture to find the right imagery and insight. The challenge was to bring a sense of spirituality to a piece of jewelry that mimics the sensation one feels when looking up at the dome in Kashan. The technical difficulty lay in achieving a 0% margin of error in stone cutting, as each stone needs to fit in its own setting perfectly.

The Kashan Dome Collection was recognized for its outstanding design and received the Golden A' Jewelry, Eyewear, and Watch Design Award in 2018. This award is granted to marvelous, outstanding, and trendsetting creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom. The collection embodies extraordinary excellence and significantly impacts the world with its desirable characteristics.
