Effingut: A Unique Blend of Craft Beer and Automotive Design

Unconventional Use of Engine Parts Creates a Memorable Dining Experience

Effingut, located on the podium level of WTC in Pune, India, is a 170 square meter indoor space with a 6-meter high ceiling, as well as a 120 square meter outdoor seating area. The design team, led by Ketan Jawdekar and Elham Mirza Esmail, wanted to create a space that would not only attract clientele but also stay fresh and appealing with future design trends.

The interior of Effingut features a heritage look with false wooden trusses on the ceiling, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. The air-conditioned area is divided into four sections, each with a unique decor. However, the standout feature of the restaurant is the huge feature wall made from cut and assembled engine parts. This eye-catching composition serves as a backdrop for live acts and sports screenings, adding to the overall ambiance of the space.

Effingut's design is not only visually striking but also functional. The al fresco seating area adjoining the entrance provides a perfect spot to enjoy a drink in pleasant weather. The open-air seating area features wooden furniture and low illumination levels, creating a cozy and intimate atmosphere. The highlighters on the wall cover various themes related to the signs of the times, adding an element of intrigue and conversation to the space.

One of the most unique features of Effingut is the bar, which is made from recycling three thousand spark plugs. This recycled spark plug backdrop adds an industrial and edgy touch to the overall design, further emphasizing the connection between the passions of youth - cars and craft beer.

The design of Effingut was not without its challenges. Sourcing the engine parts and spark plugs was a daunting task, with the team having to scour the scrap markets of Delhi for the necessary components. The engines were then cut using high-pressure water jet cutters and transported to the site for assembly. Erecting and welding the parts on-site proved to be the most challenging aspect of the project.

Effingut's unique design has garnered recognition and accolades. In 2018, it was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category. This prestigious award recognizes designs that exhibit strong technical and creative skills while contributing to quality of life improvements.
