Crystal Tables: A Stunning Blend of Geometry and Elegance

Geometric side tables that make a statement of pure presence

The Crystal Tables, designed by Rita Kettaneh, are a set of geometric side tables that seamlessly blend art, architecture, and design. Inspired by the synergy between 3D and 2D, these tables create an interactive and visually intriguing experience for users. With their transparent tops and minimalistic single-line bases, the Crystal Tables make a bold statement in any space.

What sets the Crystal Tables apart is their unique geometric identity, which is revealed through their tops. Each table represents a different shape, such as the Triangle, Diamond, or Square, and expresses its identity not only through the shape of its top but also through its various silhouettes. This attention to detail and commitment to simplicity is what makes these tables truly exceptional.

The Crystal Tables are not only visually stunning but also highly functional. When arranged side by side, they form a larger crystal of the same shape, functioning as a modular coffee table. This versatility allows users to customize their space and create different configurations based on their needs.

Designed with both aesthetics and practicality in mind, the Crystal Tables are made with high-quality materials. The base is constructed from brushed stainless steel, which can be optionally plated with copper or brass for added elegance. The tops are made from transparent acrylic, affixed to the base with screws. To ensure durability and prevent scratches, the base is elevated from the ground using teflon parts shaped like screws.

Creating the Crystal Tables was not without its challenges. Maintaining homogeneity across the three table shapes while allowing each table to represent its geometric shape was a creative and technical hurdle. Additionally, the tables needed to meet functional requirements of stability and robustness, while also satisfying the aesthetic aspect of the design. Through meticulous research, prototyping, and revisions, Rita Kettaneh successfully overcame these challenges and created a truly exceptional set of tables.

The Crystal Tables project began in August 2016 in Kornet Chehwan, Lebanon, and was completed in February 2018 in Mazraat Yachouh, Lebanon. Throughout the design and execution phases, the tables were continuously refined to incorporate learnings from prototypes and maintain homogeneity across the entire set.

Recognized for its outstanding design, the Crystal Tables were awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in 2018. This prestigious award is bestowed upon designs that exhibit strong technical and creative skills, contributing to quality of life improvements and making the world a better place.

With their striking design and impeccable craftsmanship, the Crystal Tables are a testament to the power of art, architecture, and design to transform everyday objects into works of art.
