Roots: A Masterpiece of Art and Craftsmanship

Joao Faria's Award-Winning Home Desk Inspired by Nature

Roots, a home desk designed by Joao Faria, is more than a functional piece of furniture. It's a testament to the beauty of nature, the skill of artisans, and the power of design. Inspired by the Sacred Ceiba tree in Havana, Roots is a piece of art that brings a touch of nature into the home.

The design of Roots is unique and innovative. The desk's form is reminiscent of a tree root, with a line that revolves around a volume, leaving traces with different expressions. This geometry is intercepted by a contrasting surface on top, creating a complex look that showcases the handcrafted mastery of the artisans who created it.

Roots is not a mass-produced piece of furniture. Its design requires a combination of highly skilled artisans, laser cut technology, and router cutting techniques. The result is a testament to the commitment of the woodworkers who made it possible. Their patience, art, and craftsmanship have resulted in a beautiful piece of art that one would want to have at home, not just in the office.

The desk is customizable, with options for different types of wood and lacquered steel in various colors. It measures 155 cm x 70 cm x 74 cm and weighs 95 kg. The product is delivered fully assembled in wooden crates, further emphasizing its artisanal nature.

Roots is not just a desk, but a piece of nature brought into the home. It interacts with its users in many different ways, providing not just a functional surface, but also an emotional connection to the natural world.

The design process for Roots began in December 2013 in Porto, Portugal. After several technical studies and prototypes, the final model was concluded in early 2017 and presented at Maison et Objet in Paris that January. The design was awarded Silver in A' Furniture Design Award in 2018, a testament to its outstanding expertise and innovation.

In conclusion, Roots is a unique piece of furniture that combines design, craftsmanship, and technology. It's a testament to the power of design to interpret nature and create something truly unique. It's not just a desk, but a piece of art that brings a touch of nature into the home.
