M6 House

Architecture Residential

The M6 House, designed by Masahiko Sato, offers a sense of liberation and privacy through its harmonious interior space and balcony.

Located in Kumamoto, Japan, the M6 House was designed to maximize privacy and create a sense of liberation within a small and crowded residential area. The concept of the house revolves around the idea of securement and privacy, achieved through the harmonious integration of interior space and a terrace balcony.

One of the unique features of the M6 House is its living and dining area, which is designed with an atrium and two large windows to allow ample sunlight to flood the space. The interior walls are predominantly white, creating a reflection of light that enhances the sense of liberation and openness. This design choice not only maximizes natural light but also creates a visually appealing and spacious atmosphere.

The terrace balcony, located on the south side of the house, serves as a safe and enjoyable space for the family. Surrounded by a 2.5-meter wall, it provides a secure area for children to play while also offering a place for the owners to host gatherings with friends and family. The staircase in the house also doubles as a book rack, adding functionality and practicality to the design.

The M6 House was completed in December 2014 and showcases the innovative use of space and materials. Its design reflects the changing needs of modern living and the importance of creating functional and adaptable spaces. By prioritizing privacy, harmony, and liberation, Masahiko Sato has created a unique and inviting home that truly enhances the quality of life for its occupants.

Winner of the Bronze A' Design Award in 2019, the M6 House exemplifies outstanding and creatively ingenious design. It incorporates best practices in art, science, design, and technology, contributing to improvements in quality of life and making the world a better place.
