Quiett: Revolutionizing the Cooking Experience

Seokhyun Park and Dosun Shin's Award-Winning Induction Cooktop Design

Quiett, a unique induction cooktop design by Seokhyun Park and Dosun Shin, aims to transform the cooking experience for students and small apartment dwellers. Inspired by the need for convenience and nutritional balance in cooking, this design integrates modern digital technologies to offer a unique and modern cooking experience.

The Quiett induction cooktop stands out for its unique properties. It is a modular design that uses a streaming system to guide users through the cooking process. The main board features a single burner with a touch screen that lights up beneath the smooth surface. Users can cast the screen of their phone onto the cooktop via Bluetooth, turning it into a digital cookbook. This allows users to focus on their cooking and keep their hands free. Additionally, users can interact with others and share their favorite recipes directly from the cooktop. The magnetic power keeps two cooktops connected and transfers electricity from the main board to other boards. The LED color on the round edge changes depending on the heat level.

The technology behind Quiett is an induction system, which is safe, easy to use, clean, and energy-efficient. It heats content faster than traditional gas or electric cooktops. The design features soft aluminum on the bottom and black glass on the top. The cooktop measures 508mmX330mmX31mm.

The design process for Quiett began in August 2017 at The Design School at Arizona State University in the United States and concluded in December 2017. The primary research question was how AI services could be applied to home appliances to create a smart home and accelerate the development of AI technologies for future generations. After conducting preliminary and secondary research, the designers concluded that users often struggle with cooking without the aid of videos or recipes. Interviews with electrical and mechanical engineers provided valuable insights into the feasibility of this concept.

Despite facing challenges with AI technology and form development, the designers managed to create a product that improves the cooking experience for users. The initial plan to embed an AI system in the product was scrapped to reduce manufacturing costs. Instead, they used a streaming system from the phone. The form was designed to be competitive with other induction cooktops in the market, resulting in a simple, sleek look that offers a modern and unique design.

Quiett has received recognition for its innovative design, winning the Silver A' Home Appliances Design Award in 2019. This award is given to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise and innovation. The design is admired for its strong technical characteristics and splendid artistic skill, showcasing a remarkable level of excellence and introducing positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.
