Harvest: A Harmonious Blend of Art, Nature, and Living

Yu Chih Lee's Award-Winning Residential Design Balances Aesthetics and Functionality

Yu Chih Lee's 'Harvest' is a residential design that artfully merges art, nature, and daily life into a harmonious living space. This innovative design won the Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2019, showcasing a remarkable level of excellence and introducing positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.

The inspiration behind 'Harvest' was to create a balance between art, nature, and life within a living space. This was achieved through the extension of vertical moving lines, merging art displays between a neat structure and brick texture, and connecting the interior to the outdoor rice landscape. The design features traverse and overlapping irregular geometric sashes, creating different distances and providing artistic pleasures of viewing and peeping through various geometric frames.

One of the unique features of 'Harvest' is the deep gallery that runs straight through the house. This design element integrates the scattered space to form the main moving line of the house, connecting each space in an artistic way. The dining area is fully integrated into the outdoor natural rice landscape with its full open window view, extending into the middle section through irregular panes, making the scenery appear like an inlaid painting.

'Harvest' was realized through the improvement of the original function of the old house. Two entrances were created in the residential space, one end featuring a brick texture, extended black mirror, and exquisite lighting to create a grand and elegant welcome. The other end connects the courtyard and garage, shortening the distance of entering the home in winter for the occupants. Large glass windows introduce the outdoor garden greenery and rice landscape. A gallery was designed to connect the two entrances indoors, allowing art and nature to gradually infiltrate into the indoor space from both ends.

In terms of technical specifications, 'Harvest' uses a modern concise tone and structure, with art and nature as the protagonists of color. These elements extend from the two ends of the space, forming a merge in daily life. The contrasting materials and colors, along with the hints and setting of lighting, guide the direction of the moving line and the scope of the space. The hidden storage design makes the picture more refreshing and pure, and the surrounding area of the gallery is an open art display space, providing an aesthetic experience when walking around the home.

The main challenge in designing 'Harvest' was integrating the spatial theme of art and nature perfectly into the daily life experience of the occupants. This was achieved by creating a delicate and elegant living space through a simple and neat design and the arrangement of the lighting. The result is a living space where art, nature, and life balance and are shared, with the space displays of art merged between the neat structure and the brick texture, and connected to the rice landscape outdoors.
