Flowing Love: A Nordic-inspired Residential Interior Design

Preserving Nature in the Heart of Taipei

Living in a high-density urban city like Taipei, the homeowners had a dream of preserving nature at home. They purchased a suburban house to provide their children with a naturally conducive environment for growth. Despite the constraints of budget and limited space in Taipei, the designers aimed to create a house with a spacious public area where kids could freely play.

The design of Flowing Love incorporates various materials such as pine logs, barn door hardware, original red bricks, iron pieces, glass, system cabinets, and artificial stone. These elements come together to create a harmonious atmosphere that balances rough and delicate aesthetics.

The centerpiece of the design is the center opening room that connects both the children's room and the master room. By utilizing the advantages of the L-shaped window of the house, the centered room opens up space, allowing people to freely shuttle between each area.

Completed in 2017 in Taipei, the Flowing Love design project drew inspiration from Scandinavian design methods. The multi-material mix and match, whether it's the retro feel of the brick wall, the simplicity of the barn door, or the dark iron pieces, create a harmonious and inviting atmosphere.

One of the main challenges faced by the designers was the limited budget and space in Taipei. However, they successfully overcame these challenges by creating a wide public space that promotes a sense of openness and freedom.

Flowing Love is a testament to the beauty and functionality of Nordic-inspired design. Its unique blend of white and gray tones, black accents, and warm wood elements creates a space that exudes simplicity and elegance. This design was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in 2019 for its outstanding creativity and resourcefulness, showcasing the designers' strong technical and creative skills.
