Chrysalis: An Outdoor Kitchen Carved from Raw Stone

A Unique Blend of Rawness and Refinement

Under the vast green carpets of meadows and forests lies a resource waiting to be transformed. There are those who recognize its beauty even when the stone is still only quarried blocks and can foresee its beautiful finished future. This powerful scene of raw stone blocks standing in the field and the captivating idea that this rawness can be tamed are the inspiration for Chrysalis, an outdoor kitchen designed by Irene Goldberg.

Chrysalis is a 5-meter-long outdoor kitchen composed of 5 separate pieces, each dedicated to a different function in the kitchen. The components include a sink, a grill, a fridge, a cooking hob, and a sideboard. What sets Chrysalis apart is its construction from solid stone blocks obtained from a single block of Becagli Travertine. This stone, with its strong character and raw natural texture, makes every piece unrepeatable, reminiscent of its raw state at the quarry.

The realization of Chrysalis involves a meticulous process. The kitchen is carved from a single slab of Becagli Travertine from the Cipressi Quarry. The slab is cut into 6 smaller blocks, which are then lightened, finished, and cut by hand. The result is a stunning outdoor kitchen that showcases the beauty and uniqueness of natural stone.

With dimensions of 519 cm x 60 cm x 92 cm and a total weight of approximately 3000 kg, Chrysalis is a substantial and impressive addition to any outdoor space. Its raw yet refined design adds a touch of elegance and sophistication to the surroundings.

Chrysalis has garnered recognition in the design world, receiving the Bronze A' Design Award in the Street and City Furniture Design category in 2019. This prestigious award is bestowed upon outstanding and creatively ingenious designs that authenticate experience and resourcefulness. Chrysalis, with its incorporation of best practices in art, science, design, and technology, exhibits strong technical and creative skills, contributing to quality of life improvements.

Photographer Davide Dainelli beautifully captures the essence of Chrysalis, showcasing its unique blend of rawness and refinement. The intellectual property and copyright for this design belong to Vaselli Marmi, the brand behind this exceptional outdoor kitchen.
