Flowing Curve: A Complex Building Inspired by Subway Culture

An Innovative Benchmark for Shenzhen Metro

Metro Changzhen Depot Complex Shenzhen, designed by Yun Du, is a unique architectural masterpiece that combines functionality with the cultural image of the Shenzhen Metro. With its flowing curves and dynamic design, this complex building stands as a symbol of innovation and modernity.

The inspiration for Flowing Curve came from the need to meet the office and accommodation demands of Shenzhen Metro Line 6 staff. The goal was to create a building that not only fulfilled its functional requirements but also enhanced and demonstrated the cultural image of the Shenzhen Metro. The design team, led by Yun Du, aimed to mine and interpret the subway culture to make the building a true representation of the city's transportation system.

What sets Flowing Curve apart is its unique interpretation of subway characteristics. The design incorporates the linear, speed, and tandem features of the subway into the architectural forms and spaces. The result is an elegant and dynamic visual impact that perfectly captures the essence of the subway culture. This innovative approach not only makes Flowing Curve a standout building but also contributes to the overall image of the city's subway system.

The realization of Flowing Curve involved the use of advanced technology and materials. The architectural form emphasizes the beauty of horizontal lines, creating a visually pleasing effect. The building facade utilizes white aluminum panels and ultra-white glass curtain walls, symbolizing the speed and modernity of the subway. These design choices not only enhance the overall aesthetic but also showcase the building's connection to the subway culture.

Flowing Curve spans a total area of 67,278 square meters and includes various functional divisions such as office buildings, a canteen, storage areas, a multifunction hall, an indoor badminton court, staff dormitories, and a police station. This comprehensive layout ensures that all the needs of the Shenzhen Metro Line 6 staff are met within the complex.

The design team faced several challenges during the creation of Flowing Curve. The main challenge was to seamlessly integrate the building design with the subway culture and the future vision of Shenzhen as a modern city. Additionally, they had to overcome various constraints imposed by the venue. However, through innovative thinking and meticulous planning, the team successfully created a building that not only met all requirements but also exceeded expectations.

Flowing Curve is located in Shenzhen, a dynamic and innovative city known for its strong innovative spirit. Shenzhen Metro, as a benchmark enterprise in the city, embodies this spirit and plays a crucial role in the city's future rail transit and transportation architecture. The design of Flowing Curve is a testament to the subway culture and spirit of this unique city.

In recognition of its outstanding design, Flowing Curve was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Architecture, Building, and Structure Design category in 2019. This prestigious award is bestowed upon designs that exhibit strong technical and creative skills, contributing to quality of life improvements and making the world a better place.

Flowing Curve is a true testament to the power of design in creating functional and visually stunning architectural masterpieces. With its unique interpretation of subway culture and its innovative approach to building design, it stands as an iconic benchmark for the Shenzhen Metro and a symbol of the city's commitment to innovation and modernity.
