Reviving Tradition: Gizz Design Team's Innovative OSSO Dining Table

Award-winning design combines centuries-old walnut with modern materials and techniques

The OSSO dining table is a captivating blend of nature and modern industrial materials. Its design is a harmonious mix of history and the present, featuring a tabletop made from walnut that is over 500 years old, combined with high-quality resin. This unique combination of materials sets the OSSO table apart from other designs, offering a unique aesthetic that is both rustic and contemporary.

The Gizz Design Team, consisting of Mustafa Selçuk BULUT, Yavuz ONEY, and Huseyin IDER, drew inspiration from the mysterious world of wood. They aimed to create a piece that would bring a different soul to living spaces, from the kitchen to accessories. The result is the OSSO table, a piece that not only serves a functional purpose but also adds an artistic touch to any room.

The OSSO table's realization involved a meticulous process. The tabletop was crafted from walnut and resin, with CNC machines used to create the round edges. The base, made from aluminium sand casting and weighing 26 kg, was cleaned off and covered with rose gold. The design team faced the challenge of finding an invisible connection between the table legs and the tabletop, making the tabletop appear suspended. This was achieved by using extra walnut pieces between the top and base, with the connection part hidden inside the tabletop.

The OSSO table is not just a piece of furniture; it's an experience. As the designers note, "while experiencing the serenity of centuries on the chair you sit, you will sail to that poetic euphoria in the curls of the wood with an OSSO table on which you dine." This design was made in Ankara, Turkey, and was exhibited at IMOB Istanbul in January 2017.

The OSSO dining table is a patented design, holding the number 2017 05894 from the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office. It has won the prestigious Silver A' Furniture Design Award in 2019, a testament to its outstanding design and innovation. The award is given to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise and innovation.
