NOT CLUB: A New Generation of Music Bars

YongCai Huang's Futuristic Design Wins Silver A' Design Award

The bar, located on the bustling Xingsheng Road in the Tianhe District of Guangzhou, China, was conceived with the aim of creating a new nightlife landmark. The project, which started in May 2017 and was completed in May 2018, spans an area of 2200m2. The design of NOT CLUB is a departure from traditional bars, offering a unique atmosphere that is effectively isolated from the mediocrity of reality.

The unique properties of NOT CLUB lie in its futuristic design elements. The designers have extracted the record, the futuristic, and the tear as elements throughout the space, re-deconstructing the original space with a coherent design approach. The entrance to the bar features a large "vinyl record" flying saucer made of imitation copper stainless steel, which traverses the entire bar, creating an immersive experience for patrons.

The "vinyl record" flying saucers, which are high and low and overlap each other, are a key interactive feature of the bar. The lights on the flying saucers change with the rhythm of the music, driving the whole space to pulsate together. This unique interplay of hearing and vision contributes to the overall experience of NOT CLUB.

One of the challenges faced during the design process was the construction of GRG. There were many places where GRG crossed in the space, and handling the closing of these intersections was a complex task. Any slight deviation would make it difficult to connect. However, these challenges were successfully overcome, resulting in a seamless design.

NOT CLUB's innovative design has not gone unnoticed. In 2019, it was awarded Silver in the A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award. This prestigious award is given to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that illustrate outstanding expertise and innovation.
