Revolutionizing Fine Dining: The Kalaki Restaurant by SPECTRUM

A harmonious blend of traditional architecture and modern design in a unique dining experience

The inspiration for the Kalaki Restaurant came from the traditional inner courtyards found in old Tbilisi residential neighborhoods. These spaces, often bustling with social activity, have been reimagined in an indoor setting, creating a unique dining environment that is both intimate and communal. The restaurant's design is centered around a main atrium, which serves as the heart of the project and a meeting point for guests.

What sets the Kalaki Restaurant apart from other fine dining establishments is its commitment to creating a magical atmosphere. The restaurant's design incorporates an artificial sky and city lights, reminiscent of a French outdoor seating area. This, combined with the restaurant's multicultural Georgian experience, creates a unique setting that temporarily takes visitors away from city reality.

The restaurant spans four levels, with administration offices on the fifth floor. It has a total volume of 1,500 sq.m., with seating arrangements for 170 guests on a daily basis. However, for special events, the seating capacity can be adjusted accordingly. The design and construction of the restaurant took place from 2016 to 2018.

The design team at SPECTRUM, including David Nikuradze, Data Kapanadze, Mariam Kavtaradze, Bacho Lukhutashvili, Koba Kvetenadze, and Nika Japaridze, faced several challenges during the design process. One of the main challenges was creating a modern structure that would fit seamlessly into the heart of old Tbilisi. The result is a design that balances traditional Georgian architecture with a global and international feeling.

The Kalaki Restaurant has been recognized for its innovative design, winning the Golden A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2019. This prestigious award is granted to designs that reflect extraordinary excellence and significantly impact the world with their desirable characteristics. The Kalaki Restaurant is indeed a testament to the prodigy and wisdom of the SPECTRUM design team.
