Revolutionizing Personal Banking: PPCB's Innovative Approach

Designers Mihye Je and Seunghyun Kang Transform Mobile Banking in Cambodia

In a world where technology is rapidly evolving, the banking sector is not left behind. The Phnom Penh Commercial Bank (PPCB) in Cambodia has embraced this change, introducing a new personal banking service designed by Mihye Je and Seunghyun Kang. This innovative design has not only reshaped the banking experience for individual customers but also redefined the bank's corporate identity.

PPCB's personal banking service was born out of the need to provide a user-friendly platform for customers who had limited understanding of mobile banking services. At the time of its design, mobile banking was a relatively untapped market in Cambodia. The designers saw this as an opportunity to introduce a service that was not only convenient but also reflected PPCB's new corporate identity.

The design's unique properties lie in its ability to meet the aesthetic desires of the users while also capturing the essence of the bank's new identity. The designers focused on creating a calm and reliable design, applying a solid layout and color. To add a touch of liveliness, a triangular pattern, which is PPCB's graphic identity, was incorporated throughout the design, giving it a rhythmic feel.

The designers used Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and Invision to bring this design to life. The mobile application service runs on Android and iOS-based devices in all resolutions. The design process involved identifying the service usage pattern of the local users, understanding the market conditions, and recognizing the importance of promoting an image of trust and leadership.

One of the key features of the service is the transfer service, designed in a drag-and-drop style to facilitate the transferring process. The design is harmonious with clear intents through colors with clear contrast, flat design, a clean and organized layout, and clear direction. The design allows the users to have a uniform brand experience as well as freshness, comfort, and trust.

The project, which started in November 2016 and finished in January 2017 in Seoul, South Korea, was not without its challenges. The designers had to strike a balance between creating a design that was comfortable and unique. The main color, blue, conveys a feeling of trust and comfort, but due to its low color tone, it was challenging to maintain the direction of the design that adds uniqueness without damaging the comfort level.

This innovative design was recognized and awarded Silver in A' Mobile Technologies, Applications and Software Design Award in 2019. This prestigious award is given to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that illustrate outstanding expertise and innovation. The PPCB personal banking service design is indeed a testament to the power of innovative design in transforming industries and improving customer experience.
