Yong Ming He's inspiration for Mays Restaurant was drawn from the mature fruits and vegetables that grace the dining table. After four seasons of irrigation, these produce embody the power of nature and the sweet warmth of human taste. This theme of plant organisms is reflected in the restaurant's design, creating a harmonious blend of environment and delicacies.
What sets Mays Restaurant apart is its innovative use of natural elements in its design. The designer has taken the shape of roots, branches, and leaves, simplified them, and created new design symbols. These symbols, constructed from smooth and natural lines, form a larger imaginary world, giving the space a unique natural power.
The restaurant's realization technology involves the use of materials such as imitation wood tiles, fireproof plate, stainless steel, clear water wall paint, and ammon leather. The design spans a total area of 280 square meters, with an artistic vegetarian diet theme, plant structure, and natural symbols.
The restaurant's design journey began in December 2017 in China and was completed in April 2019. The design process involved extensive research to ensure the space was not merely decorated with plants, but used more abstract and interesting spatial expressions. This resulted in a design that broke away from inherent design thinking, blending modern materials with natural design language.
Despite the challenges faced, the design team managed to create a space that exudes both a creative, modern atmosphere and a comfortable sense of nature. The result is a unique western casual dining environment where guests can enjoy the pleasure of food and experience endless fun.
Yong Ming He's Mays Restaurant was awarded Silver in A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2019.
