A Functional and Stylish Piece Inspired by Pirate Movies

Karamba's unique feature lies in its rope detailing, which is intricately attached to the legs and pierces through the body, giving it a distinct and nautical appearance. This stool not only serves as a comfortable seat but also doubles as a storage container. It features a drawer that opens and closes with a satisfying clicking mechanism, allowing you to conveniently store your belongings. Additionally, Karamba is equipped with hidden rotatable wheels in its legs, making it easy to move around.

Made from solid wood or chipboard for a more cost-effective version, Karamba showcases colored ropes that not only add a decorative touch but also form the seat. The ropes are attached to the legs using knots and pass through the body, ending on top in a spiral shape, securely glued to the surface. With four different ropes, Karamba's design is both visually appealing and structurally sound.

The dimensions of Karamba are 530 mm x 530 mm x 430 mm, making it a compact and versatile piece of furniture suitable for various spaces. The materials used in its construction include wood, ropes, and furniture hardware, ensuring durability and longevity.

Developed over a period of three months, the Karamba project initially started two years ago but was recently revived. During the design process, Vasil Velchev drew inspiration from pirate equipment, exploring different types of ropes and knots. Experimentation with the shape of the body and the size of the legs presented creative and technical challenges, with the implementation of the ropes and knots being the most demanding aspect.

With its captivating appearance, Karamba resembles a captain's treasure chest cleverly disguised as a piece of furniture. In addition to the drawer, it features two hidden compartments, providing ample space to store your treasures. The wooden body and ship ropes contribute to its realistic appearance, evoking the ambiance of a captain's cabin. In modern interior design, Karamba serves as an excellent accent piece, adding a touch of uniqueness and sophistication to any room.

Vasil Velchev, the mastermind behind Karamba, has received recognition for his exceptional design. Karamba was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category in 2019.
