Vivika: A Bench Inspired by Brazilian Architecture

Anastassiadis' Award-Winning Design Echoes the Elegance of Oscar Niemeyer

Inspired by the sinuous lines of Brazilian architecture from the 1960s, Patricia Anastassiadis has created a bench that not only serves as a seating solution but also as a transformative element in any environment. The Vivika bench, which won the Silver A' Furniture Design Award in 2019, is a testament to the enduring influence of Oscar Niemeyer, one of Brazil's most famous architects.

The Vivika bench stands out for its lightweight design, made entirely from wood. It features removable cushions, adding to its versatility. The metal used in the bench has a unique hue, thanks to the termofrequency treatment it underwent. Measuring 2000mm x 600mm x 410mm, the bench is a blend of form and function, with its materials including wood, suede, and inox steel.

Anastassiadis' inspiration for the Vivika bench came from the aesthetic history of Brazil, particularly the 1960s, an emblematic period marked by the work of Oscar Niemeyer. Niemeyer's structures, based on curves, often seemed to float above the ground while maintaining an elegant silhouette. This influence is evident in the Vivika bench's sinuous lines and lightweight design.

The project began in June 2018 in São Paulo and was completed in March 2019 in the same city. Anastassiadis' design process involved careful consideration of the bench's form and function, resulting in a piece that is not only practical but also aesthetically pleasing. The bench's design allows for numerous possibilities for use and arrangement, serving as a reference point in any setting.

The Vivika bench's unique properties and design excellence earned it the Silver A' Furniture Design Award in 2019. This prestigious award is given to designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise and innovation, strong technical characteristics, and splendid artistic skill. The award is a recognition of the bench's ability to evoke positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.

In conclusion, Patricia Anastassiadis' Vivika bench is a remarkable piece of furniture design that pays homage to Brazilian architecture. Its lightweight design, versatility, and aesthetic appeal make it a worthy addition to any environment. The bench serves as a testament to Anastassiadis' creative prowess and her ability to transform inspiration from historical architecture into functional, modern design.
