Unveiling the Art of Honey Packaging: The Botanic by Zanas Karenauskas

Award-winning design combines nature, craftsmanship, and luxury in a honey jar

In a world where packaging design often mirrors the quality of the product it houses, Zanas Karenauskas' creation, The Botanic, stands out. This article explores the unique properties, inspiration, and realization of this innovative honey packaging design.

With the aim of creating packaging that announces its individuality while adhering to high-quality standards, Karenauskas' design reflects a true balance between human and nature. The key to this harmony is the wooden lid, individually handcrafted from natural linden tree, a tree whose nectar is generously shared by the bees in the jar.

The Botanic is a wildly imaginative raw honey packaging, made from minds with unrealistic expectations for quality and taste. The design concept is based on simplicity and respect for raw materials. The label incorporates a hexagon shape, reminiscent of the honeycomb and prevalent in nature, considered the strongest shape known.

The label is enhanced by multi-level debossing and die-cut in a specific shape. The matte silkscreen and clear gloss foil elements on the label were chosen to speak to an upgraded experience and they provide contrast on the darker green background. The packaging also includes a double-sided folded hangtag with a description of the product, printed on the same, but thicker dark green uncoated premium paper.

The Botanic honey's new design is original down to the unique handmade wooden lid that tops each container. Each lid is handcrafted from wood from the linden tree, which was struck by lightning. By incorporating natural materials, the design of the wooden lid reflects the honesty of the raw honey. The wooden lid echoes the other design elements which represent purity, natural harmony, and authenticity, values that are the values of the beekeepers as well as the design team.

Despite the challenges of creating product labeling and packaging for The Botanic raw honey that would reflect the purity and natural integrity of the product, Creative Trade Mark's ambition was realized. The combination of dark green and gold foil with a wooden lid at the top of the jar gives a good impression and makes it a unique gift, while the packaging helps The Botanic stand out from other honey brands in Lithuania and overseas markets.

This design was awarded the Golden A' Packaging Design Award in 2020. The Golden A' Design Award is granted to marvelous, outstanding, and trendsetting creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom. They are venerated products and bright ideas that advance art, science, design, and technology, embodying extraordinary excellence and significantly impacting the world with their desirable characteristics.
