Master Suite: A Harmonious Blend of Nature and Innovation

Cibelle Costa's Award-Winning Design Merges Sustainability and Luxury

Master Suite, a country house designed by Cibelle Costa, is a testament to the power of sensorial and affective architecture. This design concept invites users to experience the space with all their senses, creating a warm and inspiring atmosphere with a sustainable vision.

The Master Suite is unique in its use of alternative materials to replace natural ones, such as wood, bricks, and natural fibers. The suite was designed for a country house, using a palette of various shades of gray contrasted with wood furniture, copper lamps, textures, and lots of greenery. The bath area features a deck floor made from recycled PET bottle waste, and the ceiling's synthetic fibers replace natural ones, retaining the essence of nature.

The design process involved finding new materials that were practical and easy to maintain, yet still retained the texture and visual language of wood, bricks, and natural fibers. Vinyl coverings and ecological deck were used to replace wood, while synthetic fibers replaced natural ones. Gray linen wallpapers have replaced natural linen fabrics, and ceramic tiles replaced natural bricks.

The Master Suite is a large and integrated environment, created by removing two walls from the original division of three small spaces. A concrete beam was left to support the ceiling, inspiring the idea to repeat the beams throughout the ceiling with a plasterboard structure and indirect lighting. The beams become vertical panels with mirror coating and a green background with natural plants at the back of the bathtub area.

The project started in August 2018 and finished in November 2018, and was exhibited in the "Mostra Soul" exhibition in Franca SP, Brazil. The design brings natural elements inspiring warmth and well-being, an affective architecture, which embraces and engages the users. The proposal uses similar materials to replace wood, bricks, and natural fibers, with an ecological deck made by recycling PET bottles at the bathtub area floor.

The Master Suite faced several design challenges. The natural atmosphere of a country house is present but in order to save natural resources, some alternative materials were used. Highlights include the square swing bench hanged by sisal ropes, the fireplace as a color therapy element, the window photography behind the toilet simulating a garden view, and hand-crocheted quilts. The copper lamps refer to the old candle chandeliers. All of these contributed to a space without a main specific angle of prominence.

This design was awarded Silver in A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2020. The Master Suite is a testament to Cibelle Costa's commitment to creating spaces that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also sustainable and mindful of the environment. It is a design that truly embodies the essence of a country house, inviting its occupants to relax and connect with nature.
