Zikit: A Real-Time Diameter Change Mechanism for Drummers

Zikit is a minimalistic and lightweight device that can be easily installed in any 14" snare drum. It features internal sleeves that sit under the drum head and can be controlled with precision by the drummer. By adjusting the sleeves vertically, they press on the drum head from underneath, altering its "field" and raising the pitch. This innovative mechanism gives drummers the power to be the designers of their own identical sound, without compromising the original playing experience.

Installing Zikit is a breeze, taking just a few minutes. The device is compatible with all types of snare drums and can be easily fitted and removed. Drummers simply need to remove both drum heads, place the Zikit jig on the top bearing edge, tighten it from both shell sides, and adjust the handle gear. The pro-kit is then slid inside the snare drum shell, clamped securely, and the drum heads are placed back in position. With Zikit in place, drummers can embark on an awesome new drumming experience.

Zikit's design seamlessly integrates with any existing drum, following the classic combination of wood/metal shell and chrome finished hardware commonly used in branded drum factories. The device is made with superior quality and durability materials, featuring a 6mm-thick, seamless extruded acrylic shell, laser-engraved logo, and custom Zikit die-cast lugs.

The Zikit project was born out of Oz Shenhar's passion for drums and his desire to combine his skills as an innovator with his love for this exciting musical instrument. To ensure the device met the needs of drummers, Oz traveled the world, meeting leading drummers and collecting feedback on the first prototype. This valuable input allowed him to overcome challenges and refine the engineering solutions for Zikit.

Zikit has received recognition for its ingenuity and creativity, winning the Bronze A' Design Award in the Musical Instruments Design category in 2020. This prestigious award honors designs that exhibit strong technical and creative skills, contributing to improvements in quality of life and making the world a better place.
