An Environmentally Friendly Approach to Jewelry Design

The "Morning Dew" ring stands out from other designs due to its focus on materials and the use of a greener method for recovering precious metals. Xiangzhi Zhao has developed an original technique that utilizes an amine-containing porous material to adsorb selected metal ions, allowing for the reuse of the treatment liquid and the recovery of precious metals in a more environmentally friendly manner.

The process begins by copolymerizing 4,4'-(hexachloroisopropyl) bisphenol with melamine in an alkaline solution, resulting in the creation of an amine-containing porous material. This material has the ability to absorb selected metal ions, reducing the production of wastewater and minimizing waste. The entire "Morning Dew" ring is made using this extraction method, showcasing the designer's commitment to sustainability.

Measuring 20mm in width, 20mm in depth, and 4mm in height, the "Morning Dew" ring is a stunning piece of jewelry that combines artistry with environmental consciousness. Its shape, inspired by dewdrops and wrapped by vines, adds a touch of grace and elegance to the design.

By highlighting the value of electronic waste and the potential for resource recovery, Xiangzhi Zhao hopes that the "Morning Dew" ring will serve as a reminder to reduce resource waste and promote sustainable practices. The "Morning Dew" project began in Beijing in 2018 and was completed in 2019. Xiangzhi Zhao applied for a technology patent in early 2019, showcasing the designer's dedication to innovation and intellectual property protection. Through extensive research and experimentation, the designer determined the optimal conditions for regenerating metal, ensuring high yields and efficient production.

This exceptional design has been recognized with the Bronze A' Design Award in the Jewelry, Eyewear, and Watch Design category in 2020.
