As the headquarters of Terrafertil, a company known for its natural and healthy products, the office space reflects the brand's core values. The design team took inspiration from the organic growth found in nature, particularly the way trees and their fruits integrate themselves organically into their natural setting. The result is an office space that promotes nature's rich and diverse characteristics through its spatial components.
The office, spanning an area of 350 square meters, is composed of a mix of open and closed spaces. The main areas include two meeting rooms, a waiting area, and a lobby, all of which are covered with a custom CNC wooden structure made out of 663 French Oak panels. This structure conceptualizes nature, which is at the heart of the Terrafertil brand.
The design team faced the challenge of finding a suitable technology to fabricate the parametric triangular steel frame structure and wood panels. Despite the early stage of CNC and 3D printing machines in Ecuador, the team managed to overcome this hurdle, showcasing their ability to translate digital design into real-world scale.
The office design prioritizes the flow and feeling of its users, simulating a walk through the country. The wooden boxes gather people together, imposing and dividing the space, creating privacy and hierarchy. The interior design is inspired by the brand's logo, products, and colors. The textiles, wallpaper, and furniture used were custom-made and were meant to bring light, color, and form resembling a prairie. The space is in constant transformation, from a collaborative space to a closed working space, this equilibrium makes the space perform in dynamism.
The Terrafertil office design is a testament to how design can become a tool for wellness. The fluidity and materiality of the surroundings inspire it. The office composition mimics the organic growth found in nature, with wood forms that drape throughout the space, creating a unique and inspiring work environment.
With its innovative design and commitment to reflecting the brand's values, the Terrafertil office by Aaron Leppanen and Veronica Burbano is a shining example of the power of design to transform workspaces and promote a closer relationship with nature.
