Art Meets Functionality in the 'Cube' Coffee Table

Designers Meltem Eti Proto and Julide Arslan Merge Art and Utility in Award-Winning Design

Inspired by the Golden Ratio and geometric sculptures of Mangiarotti, designers Meltem Eti Proto and Julide Arslan have created a unique coffee table named 'Cube'. This interactive design, which won the Silver A' Furniture Design Award in 2020, offers a blend of art and functionality, providing various possibilities of combination.

The 'Cube' is not just a coffee table, but a connection between art and design. It consists of four coffee tables of different sizes and a pouf arranged around a cube-shaped lighting element. All these elements are multi-functional and can be stacked on top of each other, making the design versatile and space-saving.

The designers have used Corian material to produce the coffee tables and the lighting element, ensuring durability and continuity. A plywood version of the side table is also available. The design's dimensions are 120 cm in diameter and 50 cm in height, with transport dimensions of 60 cm x 60 cm x 60 cm.

The 'Cube' coffee table is interactive, allowing the user to move its elements according to their requirements. When not in use, the elements can be stacked to minimize space usage. This feature makes the 'Cube' a perfect fit for modern, compact living spaces.

Designed in Istanbul in 2018, the 'Cube' is a result of extensive research and careful material selection. The designers chose Corian for its durability and the way it integrates with the design language. The design also overcame creative challenges, successfully merging design and art to convey cultural messages and emotions.

The 'Cube' coffee table, with its references to the golden ratio and the sculptures of Mangiarotti, is not just a piece of furniture, but a work of art. It is a testament to the designers' belief that design should be loaded with cultural messages and emotions, in addition to serving its functional purpose.
